Virtual Small Business Tax Workshop (The IRS’s Virtual Small Business Tax Workshop is an interactive resource to help small business owners learn about their federal tax rights and responsibilities. This dynamic educational product, available online and on CD, contains nine stand-alone lessons that can be selected and viewed in any sequence. A bookmark feature makes it possible to leave and return to a specific point within the lesson. Users receive the most up-to-date tax law changes when taking the workshop online at Virtual Tax Workshop and the CD can be ordered at Virtual Tax Workshop CD. This version of the workshop includes updated content, a new reference section, interactive features and a completely new look and feel. Not only can users customize lessons to meet specific needs, they also have access to a list of useful online references that enhance the learning experience by allowing the user to view references and the video lessons simultaneously. Online or on CD, a great feature is the workshop’s convenience. The workshop is available 24 hours per day, seven days a week, from any computer. The Virtual Small Business Tax Workshop is the first of a series of video products designed exclusively for small business taxpayers. A new companion series, Your Guide to an IRS Audit, is scheduled to be released later this year. )


SCORE:

SCORE ("SCORE "Counselors to America's Small Business" is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S Small Business Administration (SBA). SCORE has about 400 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with over 10,000 volunteers nationwide. Local chapters provide free counseling and low-cost workshops in their communities to U.S. Citizens and Green Card holders. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate their time and expertise as business counselors. )

Coastal Counties Workforce, Inc. (Inc. (CCWI), is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity founded to administer and oversee the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) (29 USCS § 2801 et seq.). WIA was passed in 1998 by the federal government in order to consolidate, coordinate, and improve employment, training, literacy, and vocational rehabilitation programs in the United States. As a result, a national workforce development system was established and divided into local or regional workforce boards. CCWI is one of four Workforce Investment Boards in Maine. With respect to WIA, CCWI’s jurisdiction includes Maine’s six coastal counties (Knox, Lincoln, Waldo, Sagadahoc, Cumberland, and York). What We Do: plan, oversee, and evaluate local workforce development programs, including the CareerCenter Network and Workforce Solutions Centers; direct WIA compliance through interactions and negotiations with the Dept. of Labor, Bureau of Employment Services and through CareerCenter oversight; partner with the economic development community to promote the region’s economic prosperity; serve as the point of contact for business and industry, facilitating communications regarding workforce needs in our area; assess regional business needs and align programs and services to meet those needs; thereby ensuring the availability of qualified workers and promoting coordination among business and the public sector; implement a comprehensive workforce development system that adds value for job seekers, incumbent workers and employers; promote strategies to encourage life-long learning, improve workplace skills and assist in the development of new training programs to benefit the region’s workforce. )

Maine Answers Tough Times (Maine Answers Tough Times is a new feature initiated by the Maine State Library in 2009 on its web site. The web links comprising Maine Answers Tough Times were selected for Maine residents who need help with employment and job training; housing, food or legal assistance; health care and insurance; and, credit and crisis counseling. Each web page link in Maine Answers Tough Times will lead directly to the web sites of State government agencies such as Career Centers, DirigoHealth, Maine State Housing Authority, and the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development. Each web page also includes a link to the State Library’s directory of Maine’s public libraries – very important organizations that are providing resources and ideas to help Maine get through tough times. Visitors to Maine Answers Tough Times can find contact information and public hours for their local libraries. Public libraries are supplying Maine with resources on resumes and job hunting, small business start-up, personal finance, stretching grocery dollars, do-it-yourself home and auto repairs, and improving job skills or learning new ones. Maine Answers Tough Times is collaboration between department head Peggy O’Kane, the librarians in Reference and Research Services, and Ellen Wood, Web Coordinator. )

Location: Fields at Camden Hills, Rockport in a 30,000 square foot clearspan frame tent. Takes place from June 30th, Saturday, (10am-5pm) & July 1, Sunday (10am-4pm). The MH+D Show is a trade show of over 140 custom home, lighting, landscaping, design, and craftsmen businesses from across the state. With a new home in Rockport and a renewed committment to bringing in a high value, ready to buy, customer through expanded marketing and outreach, this is a show you can't afford to miss! Pricing: general booths are $795 and an Art Booth is $895. All booths are 8×10 and come with pipe and drape, one 6 ft. table and two chairs (if requested). An art booth is specially constructed with three wooden walls for an art gallery or business to hang art, products, or other items from. It is painted as well. All assembly is included in the cost, except for actually hanging the items. 10 tickets at no charge for each exhibitor, to hand out to their most value customers.
